A manual posted to a password-protected jihadist forum, al-Firdus, provides highly detailed instructions for the preparation of ?explosive oils,? including nitroglycerin, nitro glycol, and nitro methane, as well as methods for making variations of dynamite with the oils. For each set of recipes, the author adds a note concerning the substance?s stability, safe storage, and methods of detonation.
The explosive oils listed within the guide are accorded great importance by the author, which he classifies as to their ?sensitivity and destructive power.? Nitro glycol, for example, is described as ?very explosive, more so than TNT,? and is very effective on ?hard substances.? To procure glycol, necessary to the preparation of the explosive, the guide mentions that it is available directly in medical equipment stores, or it can be derived from anti-freeze.
