Al-Qaeda in Iraq Confirms the Death of Shaalan Abboud Mubarak, the Commander of the Quick Intervention Forces in Dyali, and Claims Responsibility for Two Attacks in Baghdad
By SITE Institute
July 2, 2005

In three communiqués issued today, July 2, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq confirms the death of Shaalan Abboud Mubarak, the commander of the Quick Intervention Forces in Dyali, and claims responsibility for an attack today targeting volunteers in Baghdad near the Green Zone, and a suicide operation upon the ?headquarters of Jafaari?s team? in Mansur, a district in western Baghdad, yesterday.

The first communiqué seeks to refute the ?enemies of Allah almighty? who claimed that Shaalan Abboud Mubarak was injured in the attack perpetrated yesterday . The group maintains that he ?died and was annihiliated,?and reiterates their claim for responsibility.

The second message states that at the time of its composition today, an attack in Baghdad near the Green Zone resulted in the death of 40 ?renegades? and caused injury to 60. Today, media reports indicate that a suicide bomber detonated himself in the western area of the city, killing 16 recruits for the Iraqi police and injuring 22 others.

According to the third communiqué, a suicide car bombing operation was executed yesterday in Mansur, western Baghdad, targeting the ?headquaters of Jafaari?s team, the tormentor of these times.? The media reports that an attack yesterday at the Islamic Dawa party headquarters in western Baghdad resulted in the death of one Iraqi and the wounding of another. The message notes: ?In contrast to what the enemies of Allah claim, the house was filled with people who were assembled there, disobeying Allah and preparing plans to hurt the Muslims.?
