Al-Qaeda in Iraq Denies that the Captured Abu Abdulaziz is one of the Highest Leaders of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi
By SITE Institute
July 13, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat Al-Jihad Fi Bilad Al-Rafidayn] issued a statement today, July 13, 2005, refuting the announcement of US Chief of Joint Staff General Richard Myers that Abu Abdulaziz, who was captured in Baghdad, is one of the ?highest leaders of al-Zarqawi.? According to the message, Abdulaziz ?is not more than a responsible man of one of the brigades in Baghdad.? Further, the group mocks General Myers? announcement, alleging that the Americans are attempting to conjure victory, ?so they create the positions and ranks? of those they capture: ?This is the Baghdad Emir and that is Zarqawi?s deputy, the third is one of his biggest leaders.?

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
