Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Three Suicide Operations in al-Khudra’a, and Announces that the Bombings Were Executed by Iraqis
By SITE Institute
July 14, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat Al-Jihad Fi Bilad Al-Rafidayn], in two separate communiqués issued today, July 14, 2005, claims responsibility for three suicide operations executed in al-Khudra?a, in Baghdad?s Green Zone, and announces that the suicide bombers were native Iraqis.

As described in the first communiqué, a suicide bomber detonated his car at a ?crusaders? gathering? in the middle of al-Khudra?a, and as the American forces gathered again, a second suicide bomber detonated his ?explosive belt and sold his soul to Allah.? Also, a third suicide bomber ?joined the caravan.? The second message indicates that these attacks were carried out by ?volunteers from the Land of Two Rivers.?

According to media reports, the attacks targeted a Green Zone government compound; however, Iraqi police opened fire on the suicide car bomber causing the car to explode before it reached the compound. The two additional bombers were reported to have been gunned down, and the man who survived had his bomb diffused.

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
