In a statement issued today, July 15, 2005, the Islamic Army in Iraq claims responsibility for armed confrontations with Iraqi forces in Samarra, where the ?enemy suffered many casualties.? In addition, the group states that they launched mortar shells on the barracks of American soldiers and Iraqi National Guards in the area of al-Soleikh, in Baghdad.
