Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for the Kidnapping of the Algerian Diplomat, Ali Belarouci
By SITE Institute
July 25, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat Al-Jihad Fi Bilad Al-Rafidayn], in two recently issued statements, claims responsibility for the kidnapping of Ali Belarouci, the ?head of the Algerian delegation? to Iraq, and provides photographs of his ID cards. In the message regarding Belarouci?s capture, the group states that Algeria sent its delegation ?in spite of our warning before hand,? and without regard for the ?lesson? from the fate of the Egyptian ambassador, Ihab al-Sherif, and the attempted murder of the Bahraini ambassador.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq alleges that Algeria is ?obeying the crusaders,? and further, addresses Bayan Solagh, the Iraqi Minister of Interior, that no one is ?responsible for safety? in Iraq.

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
