Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Suicide Bombing Operations in Baghdad, and Attacks upon American and Iraqi Forces in Baghdad and Samarra

In six communiqués issued today, July 27, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility for several attacks today upon American and Iraqi forces throughout Iraq:

  1. The first communiqué states that today, a suicide bomber from the ?Island of Mohammad? (Saudi Arabia), detonated his bomb, targeting an Iraqi National Guard convoy in al-Azamya. The message alleges that ten were killed and nine injured.
  2. The ?Quick Intervention Forces? were attacked in Bejy, north of Baghdad, today, where ?not less than 15 converters were killed….?
  3. According to the third communiqué, a native Iraqi suicide bomber struck a gathering of the ?Interior emergency forces? in the area of ?Fifth police,? west of Baghdad, allegedly killed twenty officers.
  4. An attack today at a checkpoint in al-Sweib al-Baya?a, west of Baghdad, as described in the fourth communiqué, targeting the Iraqi National Guards.
  5. The group detonated an explosive package on an American convoy in al-Ma?amal in Samarra, allegedly destroying a Humvee.
  6. The sixth message highlights an attack today on an Iraqi police patrol on the expressway in al-Qana, in Baghdad.
