The Supporters of the Sunni People in Iraq Claims Responsibility for the Murder of Fifteen Shi’ites at a Fake Checkpoint in Baghdad
By SITE Institute
August 2, 2005

The Supporters of the Sunni People [Ahel al-Sunnah al-Munasera] in Iraq, issued a statement today claiming responsibility for the murder yesterday of more than fifteen Shi?ites, from the Badr, al-Da?awa and al-Taleea?a organizations, at a fabricated checkpoint on al-Hila road in Baghdad. The message explains that the mujahideen from the group disguised themselves in military uniforms and stopped all traffic at the checkpoint, in order to ambush the intended targets.

In the past, the group has issued claims of responsibility for the murder of Ali Shakir Eidan, the president of the Iraqi Karate Union, and attacks on Shi?ite officials in Baghdad.

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
