By SITE Institute
August 3, 2005

Ansar

Ansar al-Sunnah Army, in two communiqués issued today, August 3, 2005, claims responsibility for the murder of eight Marines in Haditha, and the capture of an injured Marine in the same attack, and announces the ?harvest? in Mosul for the past four days.

The first communiqué describes the ambush operation in Haditha upon the American forces, stating that the group remained in the desert area of al-Jazeera for nine days, awaiting the Marines with rockets and mortar shells. The group launched the mortars supported by machine gun fire and allege that they ?killed some, and the mujahideen slaughtered whoever was alive.? Allegedly, a wounded Marine ?asked the mujahideen for help,? and was captured before the arrival of the American helicopters to the area.

According to the second message, the group executed several attacks in Mosul between July 30, 2005 and yesterday, August 2, murdering members of the Kurdish Democratic Party, Kurdish National Union Party, and American patrols.

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
