Al-Qaeda in Iraq Issues Two Audio Messages from Members of the Group’s Shari’a Committee, Sheikh Abu Islam al-Qahtani and Sheikh Abu Hamza al-Baghdadi – 8/3/05
By SITE Institute
August 3, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq issued two separate audio messages with introductory statements today from members of its Shari?a Committee, denouncing an Iraqi constitution and concluding that those who support ?Allah?s enemies? are infidels and will be struck by the mujahideen. A 41-minute speech allegedly spoken by Abu Islam al-Qahtani, titled: ?Loyalty and Innocence First,? maintains firm belief in Islamic shari?a, and an unquestioning and unwavering acceptance of Islam, else, the Muslims has not met the ?conditions? for Islam.

The second 34-minute audio message, allegedly by a ?responsible figure? in the Shar?ia Committee, Abu Hamza al-Baghdadi, titled: ?The Constitution is the Faith of Disbelievers,? states that a man-made constitution is contradictory to Islam. Referencing Sheikh Usama bin Laden, Abu Hamza reiterates that even a constitution composed 90% of shari?a laws is unacceptable, and must be wholly comprised of Allah?s rules.

A full translation of both statements, a summary of the respective audio messages, and the Arabic audio clips are provided to our Intel Service members.
