A statement from al-Qaeda in Iraq about the participation of the heralds in voting on the constitution
By SITE Institute
August 13, 2005

Today, August 13, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq released a communique on a jihadist message board decrying the role of the writers of the new constitution and those who will vote for it. Essentially, the group argues that allegiance to a constitution and parliamentary rule is a form of polytheism if one also claims to follow Allah. ?I complete my describing of the constitution writers and the ones who will be voting for it,? the author writes, ?they abandoned the law of Allah, and deserted the Qur?an, and shifted away from the mujahideen?s path.?

In elaboration on its theory of polytheism, the group adds, ?Allah forbids Islam from those who did not accept Allah?s law, as Hell will be their destiny.?

In its usual language, the group closes by promising to continue fighting until Islamic Law rules over Iraq.
