Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Attacks in Baghdad, Mosul, Salman Baik, al-Yousefiya, and Arab Gabbor

In a flood of communiqués issued on Sunday, August 21, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah army claims responsibility for a slew of attacks against American and Iraqi forces during the weekend. Eight attacks occurred in Baghdad, Mosul, Salman Baik, al-Yousefiya, and Arab Gabbor.

1. Ansar al-Sunnah claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive package against a GMC car belonging to an "American Intelligence convoy" in Baghdad on Saturday, August 20, 2005.
2. Also on Saturday, Ansar al-Sunnah attacked the "National Guard barracks" in the Salman Baik hotel with mortars.
3. Members of the Lee al-Noorein brigade attacked a "crusader [American] patrol" in Mosul on Friday. The brigade "stole their resources with machine guns, both medium and light".
4. Using mortal 60 shells, Ansar al-Sunnah bombed a National Guard checkpoint in area 37 of al-Yousefiya, to the south of Baghdad.
5. On Friday, August 19th, the Lee al-Noorein brigade carried out an RPG rocket attack against the Mosul offices of the Kurdish Democratic party. The communiqué does not mention any casualties.
6. On Friday, Ansar al-Sunnah claims to have detonated an explosive package against an American humvee in Arab Gabbor, south of Baghdad. According to the statement, the attack "resulted in damaging the humvee and killing and injuring the crusaders who were in it"
7. At "eleven am", on Friday, the Lee al- Noorein brigade attacked a police patrol in the al-Maared area of Mosul with machine guns. The attack "resulted in…the death and injury of an unknown number of patrol".
8. Again on Friday, the Lee al-Noorein brigade attacked National Guard barracks in the al-Baath area of Mosul with RPG rockets. According to the statement, the attack resulted in "damage to the building…[while] casualties are not known".
