August 25, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq, in three communiqués and an accompanying forty-eight second video, claims responsibility for an attack by the leader, Tariq al-Swedawi in the middle of Baghdad yesterday, a scene of which is depicted in the video, and armed confrontations yesterday with American forces in the area of al-Moshahada, north of Baghdad.

The statement describing the attack of the leader, Tariq al-Swedawi, informs that the operation began with a suicide bombing on an Iraqi police patrol, followed by a car bombing and the detonation of an explosive device on additional patrols. According to the message, following the engagement with the police, ?the converters could not stand it, so they fled,? and called upon American forces for assistance. Additionally, the group claims to have shot down a helicopter which arrived on the scene.
