An illustrated guide for the instruction of preparing ?popular and international explosives? was recently posted to a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated forum, under the title: ?A Free of Charge Seminar in Making Explosives is Starting for Those Whom May Be Interested.? In what is called the first lesson, the author provides a highly detailed, step-by-step process for the creation of mononitronapthalene, which is noted to have been used for artillery bombs, and is advantageous in its stability and similar ?oxygen balance? to TNT.
At the conclusion of the guide, the author requests that members of the forum submit questions and suggestions about the lesson, and further, asks users if the instructions were followed, to which they replied with thanks and promises to follow the guide. The second lesson, concerning the production of acetone peroxide (acetone sugar), followed the first. The author apologized for the lapse in-between the two citing security concerns. The translation of the second lesson will be soon provided.
A full translation of the guide is provided to our Intel Service members.
