Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Attacks upon a Transportation Station for American Forces in Haditha, and Several Bombings Targeting Americana and Iraqi Forces in Kirkuk, Mosul, and Tikrit
By SITE Institute
September 1, 2005

In four communiqués issued today, September 1, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah claims responsibility for attacking a gathering of American soldiers in Haditha, and bombings targeting American and Iraqi forces in Kirkuk, Mosul, and Tikrit, today.

The first communiqué described a multi-step operation in Kirkuk today, in which an explosive package targeting cars transporting a Kurdish official preceded a car bomb on a gathering of Iraqi guards. According to the message, the road to the area was shut down and the number of casualties is unknown.

The second message highlights the detonation of an explosion on an American tank in al-Mosul, destroying the tank and ?killing and injuring its passengers of the crusaders.?

Today, as described in the third communiqué, the group ambushed an American convoy near a train station in Haditha and attacked them with mortar shells and machine guns. The group alleges that the target, a transportation station that secures passage of support to the American base in Haditha, was destroyed and some of the ?enemy forces? were killed.

The fourth communiqué states that explosive packages planted in the side of the road in Tikrit were discovered by Iraqi National Guards; however, the explosives were still detonated as a convoy stopped near the area. The message indicates that at least three American soldiers were killed in the explosion.

A full translation of the four messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
