The Muslim Woman in the Jihad Arena
By SITE Institute
September 1, 2005

A message describing the Muslim woman?s place in jihad, delineating nine required roles, was recently posted to a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated forum under the title: ?The Woman in the Jihad Arena.? The author predicates his beliefs of the woman?s role by referencing both Muslim women in Palestine, and those who fought during the time of the prophet Mohammad, providing examples such as the first female martyr, Sommaya Om Ammar, and women who gave away their children for jihad. He maintains that Muslim women must partner with men in war, not necessarily in terms of physical participation, but to encourage, heal the injured, and comfort the ailing.

To confront the ?Anglo-American attack on Iraq,? the author states that a Muslim woman must provide ?materialistic and moral support? to the jihad, comfort the families of martyrs, and most importantly, strengthen her children and instill within them reverence to Allah, and the ?love of jihad? and ?martyrdom for the cause of Allah.?

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
