Video Provides Detailed Process for the Construction of a “Thunder Bomb”
By SITE Institute
September 1, 2005

A very high-quality 26:30 minute video depicting step-by-step instructions for the assembly of an explosive device known as a ?Thunder Bomb,? an anti-personnel remote-controlled explosive charge containing metal ball bearings for shrapnel, was recently posted to a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated forum. The video, divided into three parts, provides explanations for the construction of the charge, its targeting using precise mechanisms, and a demonstration of the device?s effectiveness. However, the video focuses more on the assembly of the various components of the bomb, and therefore explains, for example, at what stage and how the explosives should be put in place, but does not explain how to create such explosives. Neither does the video explain how to create a detonator, but only points out where a detonator must be placed.

This video seems to be of the same production and narration, as another which explained the manufacture of an explosive belt for suicide operations .

A summary of the video, translation of selected narration, and video clip are provided to our Intel Service members.
