Details of the Battle of the “Crushing of the Cross” in Afghanistan
By SITE Institute
September 2, 2005

A seven-page message describing the battle of the ?Crushing of the Cross,? in Afghanistan, an operation depicted in an hour-long al-Qaeda mujahideen video titled: ?War of the Oppressed ,? was issued Wednesday, August 31, 2005, to a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated forum. The attack in Mashina?an, southern Afghanistan, is described as the ?largest operation against the crusader enemy, until now? and is lauded by the mujahideen for allegedly delivering punishment unto not only the American forces, but the ?cross coalition.?

The message explicates each major step in the operation?s execution in a descriptive fashion, as the mujahideen set up multiple ambushes targeting American patrols consisting of ground troops, Humvees, and Apache and Sky-Hawk helicopters. According to the message: ?The cross [American] army lost its mind, and got so angry, and filled the air with the jets and firing of missiles all day, and until sunset. During all that, the mujahideen were chanting ?Allah is great?. Therefore it was really a battle of defeat for the soldiers of the cross, and a victory for the soldiers of Allah and His party.?

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
