By SITE Institute
September 6, 2005

In three communiqués issued yesterday, September 5, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility of attacking the Ministry of Interior, allegedly destroying two ?strongholds? in the process, a bombing targeting a British armored car in al-Basra, and combat with Americans in Talafar.

The first communiqué describes the attack on the Ministry of Interior in Baghdad yesterday, as members of the group rushed with ?five groups and from five hubs,? striking two ?strongholds? of the Ministry. One location faces the eastern gate area, and the other, Mohammed al-Qasem expressway. After destroying these checkpoints, the group fired upon the Ministry building allegedly destroying a total of four Iraq police cars and killing seventeen. Media reports indicate that two policemen were killed and five wounded in the attack, when nearly thirty masked gunmen opened fire on the Ministry of Interior building.

As stated in the second message, an explosive was detonated on a ?crusaders? patrol,? destroying a British armored car and killing two yesterday in al-Basra governorate.

The third message highlights confrontation with the ?crusaders? and their ?tails? from the Shi?ites in Talafar, yesterday, allegedly destroying three armored cars and striking a plane. The message states that the ?news of its fall was not confirmed.?
