A seventeen minute audio message allegedly voiced by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Emir (Prince) of al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat Al-Jihad Fi Bilad Al-Rafidayn], was disseminated amongst jihadist forums today, September 14, 2005. The speech, titled: ?This is My Message to the People and They Are Warned,? is a diatribe about not only the actions and ?crimes? of the Americans and Shi?ites in Tal Afar, and other Iraqi cities, but the inaction of the Sunnis and their scholars in this regard. Zarqawi also warns of an impending comprehensive war on the Shi?ites and their supporters, ?wherever and whenever they are found,? demanding that people either choose between two camps: ?the camp of the right thing or the camp of the wrong thing and its followers. So choose on which side of the sword you fall.?
Zarqawi reiterates claims made in his previous speech issued September 11, 2005, charging that the American soldiers under the command of the ?Black House,? and the Shi?ites working behind them, released poisonous gases in Tal Afar and falsely arrested teenagers for being suspected mujahideen. Within this rubric of torture and aggression, Zarqawi believes lay the planned ethnic war between the Shi?ites and Sunnis. He calls upon the Sunni scholars and asks: Is the blood of your sons so cheap that you don?t care about the dishonoring of your daughters? … Where is your religion? Where is your manhood? Where is your dignity?? If the Shi?ite government is stabilized, Zarqawi fears a dangerous situation, and intends to rile the Sunnis to jihad and abet the mujahideen.
The conclusion of the message promises retribution for the attacks upon the Sunni people and betrayal of Islam, stating that the Shi?ites will be tracked down no matter where they may be, all relatives of members of the Iraqi forces will be killed, and ?we will demolish and burn his house, after we take out the women and the children,? and promises the same destruction on any tribe which became traitorous to the mujahideen. Further, Zarqawi vehemently issues a challenge to the Shi?ite Iraqi government and Ibrahim al-Ja?afari and Sa?adoun Dulaimi, Iraqi Prime Minsiter and Defense Minister, respectively: ?to get out of their dens in the Green Zone to face the brigade of mujahideen. What life is this of yours? It is a bad one. You don?t have any manhood because you are like a man, but where are the real men? Do you hear me, you enemies??
