Al-Qaeda in Iraq Denies Threats on People of Sunnah Ascribed to Sheikh Abu Musab
By SITE Institute
September 18, 2005

In a message released today on jihadist Internet forums, al-Qaeda in Iraq?s spokesman, Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, clarified statements issued by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in his latest audio speech issued on September 14, 2005.

According to the latest communique, media accounts of Zarqawi?s September 14th speech only cited portions of his full speech, thus twisting its true message using these few select quotes ?chosen for presentation by the American master.?

Specifically, the message argues that accusations claiming that Zarqawi ?threatened Sunnites who reject the constitution with death if they participate in a referendum on it. All this is a lie and pure invention...? Following this, the author writes that ?as a result, denouncing announcements were issued, ?as usual?, by different groups.?

In closing, the annoucment reiterates a selection of Zarqawi?s message in order to clarify his statement regarding the constitution and seeming inactivity of all Sunnis to act with the mujahideen, thus placing them at the will of the enemy. ?If you do not rush to join the mujahideen in order to defend your religion and protect your honors,? he states, ?then by Allah there will be grief and remorse... Beware of the spreading constitution deception and of the appeals to join a referendum on it.?

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
