Hamas Claims Responsibility for the Abduction and Murder of an Israeli Shabak (Israeli Security) Officer
By SITE Institute
September 28, 2005

In a statement dated September 27, 2005, Hamas claims responsibility for the abduction and murder of Sasson Nuriel, a member of al-Shabak, in al-Qods, Israel. According to the message, the ?freeing the captured unit? of the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades of the Military Wing of Hamas abducted Nuriel on September 21 in an operation titled: ?The First Drop of the Heavy Rain.? The group alleges that their initial plan involved exchanging Nuriel for captured Palestinians, but ultimately killed him following the Israeli ?campaign of random arrests? in the West Bank.

Hamas ensures that they are determined to free captured Palestinians, that Israel continues to be ?arrogant? despite the alleged ?period of cooling down? to free arrested Palestinians, ? and the ?occupation government? and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon are responsible for the murder of Nuriel Sasson. Further, the group warns that Israel should be prepared for ?long battles in which the Zionist occupation will pay a very high price?.

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
